WHILE I am by no means a musician, I do really like music. I think it's because it facilitates my escapist fantasies- my inner monologue shuts up for a second and we can vibe to someone else's internal thoughts.
Some of my favorite poetry also, comes in the form of song lyrics, and have inspired some of my favorite pieces I've written. So I listen to a lot of it, all different kinds. And in an effort to remember where they all are, I make playlists, and sort based on a very specific but general energy.
I don't think you'll know what I mean until I show you, so here we go: (ps, mini plug, I linked all of my versions of these playlists if you're curious)

For the songs you find relatable, and that the other people like you will like too. (an intimate peak into your psyche.)

Road-trips! plane rides! doing fun things!

I made this playlist in the ~heat~ of seasonal depression.

Reminds me of high school Jordan <3. But in high school, I think it was more angst less approachable. If you get it you get it.

Songs that make me feel grounded.

You know the ones. Kind of nice to have them all in one place.

Idk if everyone needs this playlist but definitely some of you know what I mean.

Depression session material, but you need it when you need it. When we feel, we allow it! Playlists like this are super healing for me, so I have more than one, for the more than one type of sad that exists.

Happy songs, I am on Earth and in control type of vibe.

We are young and happy and alive!

Pure escapist fantasy.

Aging is a fascinating double edged sword that I like to think about. I made this playlist at the end of my college career. What a time to contemplate the meaning of life.

Look I went through this one breakup and I researched the psychology of breakups. Confirmed, listening to songs about it is helpful a little bit. Maybe thats just me rationalizing my favorite guilty pleasure (being heartbroken).

Let's set unrealistic expectations of our love lives! Bare minimum does not do it for us.

Feminist anthems. Duh.
ANYWAYS. Basically, once I think of a title for a playlist, I continue to pick out my favorite songs that match that vibe. This method helped me overcome my fear of playing music in a group of people, but also lets me vibe match myself. I feel like that this little confirmation bias can really validate my feelings even when no one else can. Not to seem like one of those ~music saved my life~ sad kids (but I support you guys, too).
